The previously announced demo for The Legend of Heroes: Trails through Daybreak is now available to download for PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch. While there is no native PlayStation 5 demo, the PS4 demo is playable on PS5. Players will be able to play through the Prologue in the Switch demo while those playing the PS4 demo will be able to also play through Chapter 1. Try out the series’ new battle system which allows you to change between action and turn-based combat on the fly. Save data from the demo can be carried over to the full game once it releases on July 5, 2024. PS4 demo save data will be compatible with the full PS5 version. As mentioned previously, there is no demo for the PC version.

NIS America has announced a demo for their upcoming release, The Legend of Heroes: Trails through Daybreak. The demo will be available on Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4, and it is scheduled to release on June 4th. The PlayStation 4 demo will also be available on PlayStation 5. Demo save data can be carried over to the game’s full version once it launches on July 5, 2024. Unfortunately, a demo will not be available for PC players.

Nihon Falcom has revealed the platforms and launch date for the newest installment in the Trails series, The Legend of Heroes: Kai no Kiseki -Farewell, O Zemuria-. The game is scheduled to launch in Japan for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 on September 26, 2024.

The Legend of Heroes: Kai no Kiseki -Farewell, O Zemuria- will be available both physically and digitally for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. Physically, the game will be available in both a standard and limited edition. The limited edition comes with the following:

• Mini original soundtrack
• “KISEKI 20th” Metallic Card Collection 2004-2024
• “KISEKI 20th Anniversary” Memorial Pins

Aniplex has announced that the artbook included in the PlayStation 4 physical limited edition for the English release of TSUKIHIME -A piece of blue glass moon- will have two modified pages. The artbook will not be altered for the limited edition on Nintendo Switch.

Aniplex went on to state that while the artbook would be altered for the PlayStation 4 release, the game itself will not be altered for both the PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch versions.

This isn’t the first time something has been altered due to Sony Interactive Entertainment’s policies. Senran Kagura Burst Re:Newal had an entire game mode removed prior to its release on PlayStation 4. Not even more well known titles were safe, as Devil May Cry 5 was also hit with extra light censors in its western PS4 release, though those were eventually removed. This, however, is an interesting situation as Aniplex is owned by Sony Music Entertainment Japan, which is under the same parent company (Sony) as Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE). It appears other companies under the Sony umbrella are not exempt from SIE’s publishing policies.

The second major DLC for Fate/Samurai Remnant, “Record’s Fragment – Yagyu Sword Chronicles”, is available to download now. In this new content, Miyamoto Iori and Saber must investigate and solve mysterious murders taking place in the streets of Edo. Players will get to work together with a new Rogue Servant, Yagyu Munenori (CV. Chikahiro Kobayashi), to find the one responsible for these killings and bring peace back to Edo.

In order to access the DLC, players must reach Chapter 3 “My Mind Bides on the Battlefield”. You can select the new content once you’re able to move freely on the Edo Map.

Fate/Samurai Remnant DLC Vol. 2 “Record’s Fragment – Yagyu Sword Chronicles” is available to purchase now for $14.99 USD in PlayStation Store, Nintendo eShop, and Steam. TYPE-MOON visual novel, TSUKIHIME -A piece of blue glass moon-, will release on June 27, 2024 for PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch. Previously, it was only known that the title would release sometime in Summer 2024, so this is welcoming news for fans that have been looking forward to the game’s release. TSUKIHIME -A piece of blue glass moon- is a remake of 2000 Windows PC visual novel, Tsukihime.

NIS America has announced that they are bringing Ys X: Nordics to the west in Fall 2024. This Action RPG is the latest installment in Nihon Falcom’s long running Ys series, and it will be available on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC via Steam, Epic Games Store, and GOG. All versions of the game will support English and French text, along with English and Japanese audio. In addition to the language options previously mentioned, the PC version will also have support for Japanese text.

Ys X follows the red-haired adventurer, Adol Christin, and a pirate named Karja Balta. It takes place in the Obelia Gulf and introduces new aspects to Ys‘ gameplay including the Cross Action System, as well as naval exploration and combat. Will Adol and Karja be able to work together and protect the people of Obelia Gulf?

ESRB has revealed their rating for NIS America and Nihon Falcom’s upcoming overseas release of The Legend of Heroes: Trails through Daybreak. The game has been rated T for Teen for the following reasons: Blood, Drug Reference, Fantasy Violence, Language, and Suggestive Themes. For reference, the CERO rating for the game’s original Japan release was C: for 15-year-olds and above.

The ESRB’s Trails through Daybreak rating summary is as follows:

This is a role-playing game in which players assume the role of a hero hired to find a stolen heirloom. As players explore a fictional republic, they can complete missions/quests, interact with characters, and battle human enemies and fantasy creatures (e.g., giant insects, demons, robotic turrets). Players use swords, machine guns, and magic spells to defeat enemies in turn-based combat. Battles are highlighted by gunfire, impact sounds, and cries of pain. Some sequences depict blood-splatter effects as characters are attacked; a handful of scenes show blood on characters’ faces and underneath a corpse. KOEI TECMO has released a trailer for the first of three DLC’s coming to Fate/Samurai Remnant. The DLC titled “Record’s Fragment: Keian Command Championship” is scheduled to launch in February 2024. You can check out its teaser trailer below which features Boss announcing the event. No other information about the DLC has been announced at this time.

At Granblue Fes 2023, a plethora news was revealed for Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising. Among these was the announcement of 4 DLC characters coming to the game next year in 2024. Perhaps the most surprising addition of all was a guest character, 2B from NieR:Automata. She will be voiced by Yui Ishikawa in Japanese and Kira Buckland in English, similar to how it was in NieR:Automata and 2B’s other guest appearances.

You can check out her trailer below. 2B will cost $7.99 when bought individually and she will also come with a tie-in outfit that can be used in the original Granblue Fantasy mobile/browser game. She is scheduled to be available in late February 2024.

Other than 2B, 3 other DLC characters were also announced, the first of which is Lucilius. Lucilius is voiced by Takahiro Sakurai in Japanese and Sean Chiplock in English.

You can check out his gameplay trailer below. Lucilius will cost $4.99 when released and is scheduled to be available on January 16, 2024.

Lucilius is described as follows:

Lucilius boasts overwhelming offensive capabilities in exchange for longer cooldown times. Reduce cooldown by raising his Blade Level with skills, then bear down on your foes with all the fury of a fallen angel.

The last 2 characters announced were Vane and Beatrix. Vane is voiced by Takuya Eguchi in Japanese and Zeno Robinson in English. Beatrix is voiced by Aya Hirano in Japanese and Jennifer Losi in English. There is no gameplay trailer for these two characters, but they are scheduled to release sometime in 2024.

The latest Fate/Samurai Remnant update, version 1.03, is now available to download. It is the previously announced December update which adds more playable characters to its “Battle Recollections” mode and new difficulty levels.

The list of changes is as follows:

• Added the “Apprentice” and “Fatal Sword” difficulty levels.
• You can now control Rogue Servants and other teams in Battle Recollections.
• Fixed an issue where it was impossible to complete the “Networking: Ninja Trainee” commission when a certain condition was met on the second playthrough onwards.
• Fixed an issue that caused the game to stop responding when a certain condition was met.

During The Game Awards, SQUARE ENIX announced their upcoming brand new Mana game, Visions of Mana. The press release states that this game is headed to PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC via Steam, sometime in 2024. A more specific release date has not yet been announced at this time. Fans of the series can expect new designs of the series’ beloved creatures from Mana series Illustrator Airi Yoshioka and a new captivating musical score composed by Mana series composers Hiroki Kikuta, Tsuyoshi Sekito and Ryo Yamazaki.

KOEI TECMO has announced more information on an update coming to Fate/Samurai Remnant in December 2023. The update was previously announced in October, but more information was not shared until now.

The first of these features involves the game’s “Battle Recollections” mode. “Battle Recollections” is unlocked after you progress to a certain point in the main story and allows you to replay some of the boss battles from the game. After the December update, players will be able to choose to play as other characters featured in the game, other than Iori and Saber.

The characters available to play as after the update are as follows:

• Archer
• Lancer
• Assassin
• Berserker (Musashi Miyamoto)
• Rogue Saber
• Rogue Archer (Arjuna)
• Rogue Lancer (Cú Chulainn)
• Rogue Assassin (Li Shuwen)
• Rogue Caster (Circe)
• Rogue Berserker

The second feature of the update adds two (2) new difficulty levels to the game, one easier and one more difficult. The easier difficulty is Apprentice and makes it so that players can enjoy the story more. It lowers enemy HP and attack, increases enemy knockdown duration, among other things.

The harder difficulty is Fatal Sword and is looking to be more difficult than the game’s current hardest difficulty, Sword Demon. Fatal Sword increases enemy HP and attack, there are no retries, and you can’t use items during battle. Truly this a mode for those looking for the ultimate challenge.

Fate/Samurai Remnant is available now for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam. This update with additional features is currently scheduled for a release in December 2023. If you’re interested in the game, consider checking out our review.

SEGA has announced that their free-to-play online action RPG, PHANTASY STAR ONLINE 2 NEW GENESIS, will be getting a large update on December 6th. The press release states that this new update will help new and returning players access tons of exciting new content. It also says that these updates will make it easier than ever for players to progress through the game’s ongoing sci-fi story. Starting December 6, it will be easier to raise Battle power and obtain Gold Primm II items and Arms Refiners II. There will be more chances to obtain equipment that will equip players to play through the most recent campaigns and story up to Level 70.

Players will notice an increase in rare item drops, such as 10★ Flugelgard series and 9★ weapons! There will be more opportunities to obtain Avatar items so avatars can have even more customization options! Players may also find greater rewards from Special Scratches.

The 2.5^th Anniversary Campaign: Super Creation Festival also begins December 6 and runs through January 24, 2024. Players will receive phabulous rewards during this limited time event!

WayForward has announced that they’ll be bringing Shantae Advance: Risky Revolution to modern consoles and PC. The latest press release explains that this Shantae game was originally being developed back in the early 2000s for Game Boy Advance. However, it was eventually put on hiatus in the middle of development and is only now finally going to be released. Shantae Advance: Risky Revolution is scheduled to launch digitally for Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5 and PC via Steam sometime in 2024. Also, the press release mentions that in addition to releasing on all of the previously stated platforms digitally, select platforms will be getting a physical release from Limited Run Games as well. Helmed by the original design team of Shantae creator Erin Bozon, series director Matt Bozon, and programmer Michael Stragey, Shantae Advance: Risky Revolution is the direct follow-up to the beloved original 2002 Shantae game. In this hair-whipping, belly-dancing action-adventure, Shantae’s nemesis, the nefarious pirate Risky Boots, has a “groundbreaking” new scheme that will leave Sequin Land spinning — by rotating the continent, she can move any town to the coast for easy plundering! As Shantae, players must turn the tectonic tables on Risky by rearranging the land itself…shifting, swapping, and moving between the foreground and background to navigate mix-and-match multilayered levels.

As Shantae’s adventure unfolds, she’ll explore multiple towns and labyrinths, master six creature transformations, use a variety of magical attacks and items, battle fierce bosses, and meet friends like Rottytops, Sky, and Bolo — some of whom will be encountering each other for the first time. In addition to the single-player story mode, Shantae Advance: Risky Revolution also includes a local 4-player Battle Mode for the first time in the series.
