The three-man group of THRIVE is known for its professional and dance-inducing songs. Their leader Kento is quite a ladies man with a happy go lucky attitude. Despite his lackadaisical attitude, he will do everything he can for his fans, even the things that he’s not particularly good at. Some see him as narcissistic and he can be very stubborn at times.

Kento is voiced by Kato Kazuki.

The final group to join B-PROJECT, KiLLER KiNG are a group of four that are juniors compared to the other idol groups.  Akane is the groups leader, and is easy to engage with. He is always willing to help others, but sometimes suffers from low self-esteem. However, his fellow members know how important he is to the group.

Fudo is voiced by Chiba Shoya.

A new trailer has been released for the upcoming RPG, Sky Oceans: Wings For Hire. The game follows Glenn and his crew of sky pirates as they set off on a journey. Set in a world where the surface of the planet was decimated, humanity has gone on to survive on pieces of land that were launched into the sky. The game features turn-based dogfights and the ability to upgrade and expand your airships.

Sky Oceans: Wings for Hire is currently set to be released for PlayStation 5, Steam, Switch, and Xbox Series S|X. Physical editions of the game are available for pre-order for the PlayStation 5 and Switch. A demo will be released during Steam Summer Next Fest on June 10.

It has been announced that Beyond the Ice Palace 2 will be coming to consoles and Steam later this year. The game is a sequel to the Commodore 64 game and puts you into the role of the Cursed King. Using the chains that restrained the Cursed King, you will take on demons to reclaim the throne. If you are interested in a physical copy, you can pre-order either the Switch or PlayStation 5 version of the game.

Beyond the Ice Palace 2 will be coming to PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Steam, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S later this year.

PQube has announced that both Class of Heroes: Anniversary Edition and Class of Heroes 2G: Remaster Edition are headed to Nintendo Switch and PS5 bundled together as Class of Heroes 1 & 2: Complete Edition. The games will also be available as individual copies digitally and they’ll be released separately on Steam as well. This collection is scheduled to launch sometime early 2024. A more specific release date has not yet been announced at this time. It has been announced that the roguelite Knight vs Giant: The Broken Excalibur will be launching early next month. The game follows King Arthur who after a calamity must face the void giant to free Camelot from another dimension. You will be assisted by Merlin and utilize the powers from the Knights of the Round Table. A demo for the game is also currently available.

Knight vs Giant: The Broken Excalibur will be released on October 5 for PC, PlayStation 5, Switch, and Xbox Series X|S.

It’s been while since I visited the world of Gal*Gun: Double Peace. I had a blast with this one when I played it on PC when it released back in back in 2016. The game has finally arrived on the Nintendo Switch with an all new opening. This completes the trilogy of pheromone action on the console! The big question is, how does this version stack up to the others? Let’s find out!

Here is just a quick bit about the story before we dig into the meat of this review. A young boy named Houdai is shot by the cupid angel Ekoro. She gave him a stupidly overpowered shot and he becomes immensely popular and suddenly every girl at the academy becomes hot for him. While that may sound like every guy’s dream, this soon turns into nightmare for him as the girls pound him with love letters, step on his various parts, and other crazy acts. To make matters worse, he must find his true love by the end of the day or this will become permanent! Which lovely girl will Houdai choose as his one and only? Time will tell.

For those who have never picked up a Gal*Gun title, they are rail shooters in which you shoot thirsty girls with a pheromone gun to give ecstasy. Yes, these games are very ecchi, but if you’re into this sort of thing they are a lot of fun. There are several different stages to play depending on which girl’s affection you chose to go for. You can buy upgrades at the in-game shop and getting a nice score is a must if you want to see the true endings. There are some other goodies and collectibles to find along the way as well. If you want a more in depth look at gameplay, you can check out our review of the Steam version.

As for this Nintendo Switch release, the game runs very well on the console. I am not sure what frame rate this is running at, but it is very consistent. I didn’t notice any drops or hitches in my five or so hours of gameplay. I don’t think this version looks quite as good as the PC release, but it is very close. I had to look pretty hard to spot any difference at all, and if you’re playing handheld, these small issues disappear completely.

This release of Gal*Gun: Double Peace contains most of the DLC from the previous release in the base game. This means you start off with a ton of outfits and accessories for the girls. I didn’t realize just how many costumes there were in this game until I played this release, since I bought some of the DLC for the other versions, but never all of it. The only thing I noticed missing was the famous $89 Pheromone-Z DLC, but there is an item you can buy late game that has basically the same effect.

Overall, I felt this was a wonderful Nintendo Switch port. The game runs great, the graphics are good and the inclusion of all the DLC at the $35.99 price tag with the launch discount for this whole package is a great deal. It only takes a few hours to complete one run of Gal*Gun: Double Peace, but there is a lot of replay value here in seeing the story bits for each of the girls, unlocking all the hidden goodies the game has to offer, and there is even a score attack for those looking to challenge their personal best. PQube and Inti Creates have done a great service to Switch gamers by porting the last of this amazing franchise to their console. This gives them a chance to experience the entire Gal*Gun saga for themselves! Now if you will excuse me, there is a cute angel from the first game I must hunt!

Inti Creates have announced they are bringing Gal Gun: Double Peace to the Nintendo Switch next year! This new release will include most of the content from the previous release as well as some extra goodies for owners of Gal Gun 2 and Gal Gun: Returns. A new opening movie featuring a song by heroines Shinobu Kamizono and Maya Kamizono will be included here as well. PQube will be handling the North America and European release on March 17, 2022.

Kitaria Fables is a game I was really looking forward to. In fact, a few months ago when I wrote about the various games I was most looking forward to in the second half of 2021, this was one of the titles on my list. But it turns out, Kitaria Fables is significantly different from what I was expecting. I also had some issues along the way and in the end, after investing about thirty hours into this game and reaching what seems to be the final dungeon, I put it down, both for my sanity and to still get this review out in a somewhat timely manner. Keep reading if you’d like to know how this title was different from what I expected and what I thought of the game after my thirty hours spent playing it.

Kitaria Fables begins with you as a soldier, sent to protect Paw Village. Monsters are starting to get aggressive again and attack more often. And thus, you’re sent there to protect the people and help out. You end up living on your grandfather’s old farm, and you find out that despite being a banned practice, your grandfather was a magic user. As it turns out, you also have the ability to use magic. Magic ties into the gameplay. You’ll battle monsters with either a sword or a bow and then you can unlock and use various physical attack skills, in addition to a variety of skills from one of four different elements: fire, water, wind and earth. Four different skills of your choice can be set to different buttons and by default, you have a standard attack button and a roll button for dodging.

Let’s back up for a minute though. First off, once you move into your house on the farm, you’ll be able to change the design of your cat character (merely a fur color change option), and you’ll find a save point near your bed. Outside of your house is a spot to change and set your skills. Then a little further to the left you’ll find a large field where you can grow crops, along with a chest to store stuff. You won’t be able to start farming right at the beginning, you’ll be expected to go fight monsters in the process of taking care of the different requests from Paw Village’s residents. The majority of your time with Kitaria Fables will be spent fighting monsters to get materials for equipment upgrades and the rest, farming to get crops to either sell for money or to make health items to survive. Which leads me to some of my complaints about Kitaria.

Kitaria Fables overly revolves around endlessly fighting monsters for one of the small handful of equipment upgrades there are. The game isn’t as relaxing as I expected and it got old after a while, it felt like fighting monsters for materials was the only reason for the game’s length and more of the goal than whatever the story told. There is no leveling system whatsoever. I feel like if you at least level up your stats in addition to getting materials for equipment, I wouldn’t have as much of an issue with it. Unfortunately, Kitaria Fables seems to be all about getting the materials and money required for your next equipment upgrade. It doesn’t take long for villager requests to bring you to difficult enemies, and then it’s back to killing a whole bunch of one enemy for specific materials to upgrade your equipment. Another big complaint I have is that you cannot save wherever you want and once you die, the game will auto-save and you’ll have to do a lot of backtracking.

Near the end of my time with Kitaria, a version 1.0.1 patch was released which really messed things up for me. The town chest in Paw Village suddenly had two locked rows with seemingly no way to unlock them. The shop where you can buy backpack upgrades didn’t seem to have any option to buy more chest space and I lost access to my stuff that was stored in those rows. However, when I messed around testing things out, I was still able to store new items in the chest and watch them vanish behind locked spots. I managed to get unstuck from a particularly difficult and unfair boss after this patch, but the loss of items I spent hours earning really got to me. It was pretty much the last straw for me and the main reason why I decided to just go ahead and write this review before it went out any later than it already is. Plus, the chests aren’t even the only issue this patch added. I only hope that the developer, Twin Hearts, will fix things and hopefully not mess something else up. You shouldn’t have any problems, though, unless you get a physical copy of the game and start playing before you update. I spent many hours upgrading my equipment to get unstuck from that specific boss, only for the issues the patch added in to cause me further problems.

Despite all the gripes I have about Kitaria Fables, it can still be an enjoyable game too. Once you’ve gotten yourself well enough equipped for whatever area you’re at, it’s fun to take down monsters. There are also many different environments to explore, and the music and atmosphere keeps things charming and cute. Oh, and I can’t forget the local couch co-op option which I could see being much more fun than playing by yourself. Had I actually had an opportunity to get through the game via co-op, I might not have been as annoyed with the endless material collection. The farming system isn’t very in depth or complicated, but it was a nice break from fighting monsters. And speaking of farming, Kitaria has numbered days along with a day/night cycle, but the days seemingly don’t matter. You don’t pass out if you’re out too late like an actual dedicated farming sim, and my crops didn’t seem to wilt if I ignored them for a couple of days while I was busy doing other stuff.

Overall, I found Kitaria Fables to be an okay game. It’s a cute indie game full of adorable animal characters and an interesting enough story. But the endless fighting of the same enemies over, and over, for bettering my equipment to survive the next area of monsters, really burned me out and distracted from the charm. If you love games where you’re constantly fighting monsters for materials and equipment, and you don’t mind every now and then taking a break to chill and farm, you’ll definitely have a good time with this one. Sadly, if you’re looking for a new farming sim to relax with, I would look elsewhere. The farming in Kitaria is only there to provide the crops and/or income required for your adventuring, nothing more.

Developer Twin Hearts Games has dropped a new trailer for Kitaria Fables. Due to community demand, they also announced that physical releases will be coming. In fact, pre-orders for boxed copies are now live:

Here we are, the end of June as I’m typing this, halfway through 2021. I mostly spent the first half of the year enjoying games that had already released in the last couple years. I finished up Judgment, completely played through Yakuza: Like a Dragon and I even bought myself a copy of Paper Mario: The Origami King which I’m currently working my way through. After all the reviews I took on last year, I’ve taken it easy this year as far as gaming is concerned, been jumping between a lot of random games. When it comes to new releases, I’ve gotten my hands on Atelier Ryza 2, STORY OF SEASONS: Pioneers of Olive Town which I reviewed and Bravely Default II. I’m not done with BD2 just yet but I have spent over 70 hours on it and I’m also still working on Ryza 2 which I’ve been playing in smaller increments at a time. Overall, I’ve had quite a bit of fun gaming this year and there are only a ton more games coming out in the second half of the year. These are the top five games I’m most looking forward to, which launch anywhere from July to December 2021. As usual, this list is in no particular order.

Kitaria Fables

Recently I’ve had that farming sim itch. Not long ago, I picked Stardew Valley back up to start a brand new path on Switch. Due to that, along with spending a significant amount of time on Pioneers of Olive Town, I’ve had my eyes on the various indie farming sim games out there, wondering what the next top quality one will be and hoping there’s something out there worth spending money on. Kitaria Fables is looking like it might be that next great title, mostly because I love the art style/graphical quality of the game. Stardew Valley is great in its own right, it perfected the farming sim formula in my personal opinion. But, I’ve been hoping there would come a fantastic farming game with a higher quality, even more charming look to it. Not only does Kitaria Fables have a higher quality, cutesy charm to its appearance, but it also has adorable anthropomorphic cat characters and various other animals. If it turns out the game was made well and functions as great as it looks, then it will surely be a wonderful farming sim.

Lost Judgment

As I said above, I finished up Judgment and both started and finished Yakuza: Like a Dragon earlier this year, which left me quite sad that I had no more brand new Yakuza games to play. Having finished Yakuza 0 and decided to invest in the rest of the series a little over a year and a half ago, I spent many months enjoying Yakuza games, knowing I had a new game to play each time I finished one. That sadly came to an abrupt end early this year. Thus, I was extremely excited to find out that Lost Judgment, the upcoming sequel to Judgment, would be releasing on both last and current-gen consoles. I am a little worried that perhaps it won’t play as well on my slim PS4 as the original did. Still, it looks like a fantastic sequel and I can’t wait to try it. Based on the small teaser we got during the announcement event, I’m looking forward to both the addition of skateboarding as a full side feature (not merely a short occurrence in the story) and the new dancing rhythm game. Seeing as Judgment didn’t get the karaoke minigame that’s present in the mainline Yakuza games, I thought it needed some sort of rhythm game added in and it appears it’s getting one. Knowing that Lost Judgment is probably the final Yakuza franchise game I’ll get the chance to play for a long while, I plan to enjoy it as much as possible.

Shin Megami Tensei V

Shin Megami Tensei V is a game I’ve been waiting years for, since they first announced it during that initial Nintendo Switch preview stream showing off the game system and all the games that would be coming out for it. My first mainline Shin Megami Tensei game was SMT IV and I absolutely loved it. Therefore, when SMT V was briefly teased alongside the Switch, I knew I had to get one eventually for that game alone. Since then, I’ve found plenty of other games to love on Switch. Nonetheless, Shin Megami Tensei V looks pretty awesome and I’m happy it finally has a firm release date and will be coming out very soon.

BUSTAFELLOWS

This is one of the more unique games on my list of most anticipated. It’s an otome visual novel that I know very little about. Honestly, I’ve been somewhat avoiding otome visual novels these days because they’re a bit of a guilty pleasure of mine and I know how fully absorbed into them I can get. However, the Switch has been relatively well supplied with them and this is one of the latest ones that has appealed to me. I’m not so much interested in the guys this time around, as I am the story. The protagonist being a girl who sees one of the characters die and goes into the past for a short time as someone else, was intriguing to me. Plus, PQube has stated that the game will contain 80 hours of content. That’s double the size of Piofiore: Fated Memories, the last otome I picked up. Ultimately, I’ve ended up eyeing BUSTAFELLOWS for months now tempted to pre-order and I finally pulled the trigger a couple weeks ago.

Mario Party Superstars

This was one of Nintendo’s surprise announcements during their E3 2021 Direct. The reason this game has landed itself on my most anticipated list is because it’s the Mario Party we’ve all been wanting. Most Mario Party fans are very aware the series’ quality took a dive on Wii. First the boards shrank and the goals somewhat changed, and then they made you play more as a team instead of against each other. Suffice to say, Mario Party 8 is the last Mario Party game I picked up. Granted, before that I had only played Mario Party 2 and Mario Party 7. But both games were wonderful, ideal entries. I’m so excited for Mario Party Superstars. It has old content I got to experience and loved, and old content I didn’t experience but that I know comes from some of the best Mario Party games. Not to mention, it’s all remade and looks so shiny and new, plus the fact that old remade content means we get to go back to using buttons, no more mandatory motion controls. The only disappointing thing about this release, is that we have to wait four agonizing months to play.

The latter half of 2021 is looking like a jam-packed year to the unfortunate dismay of many peoples’ wallets. And if the variety of my list above is anything to go by, there is likely something for everyone coming soon. I didn’t even include any of the vague 2022 release games I’m looking forward to. PQube has announced that Kitaria Fables, upcoming action RPG/farming sim from developer Twin Hearts, will be launching on PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X, Xbox One X and PC, this upcoming September 3rd. If you have yet to see the original announcement trailer for the game, you can check it out down below.

Real time combat, exploration and dungeoneering will sit alongside farming for provisions and the crafting of weapons and armour.

The game will star all the residents of Paw Village alongside our hero “Nyanza“. A brave soldier of the Empire, Naynza has been sent to Paw Village to protect the residents and uncover the mystery of the increasingly dark events in Kitaria.
