A new trailer has been released for the upcoming RPG, Sky Oceans: Wings For Hire. The game follows Glenn and his crew of sky pirates as they set off on a journey. Set in a world where the surface of the planet was decimated, humanity has gone on to survive on pieces of land that were launched into the sky. The game features turn-based dogfights and the ability to upgrade and expand your airships.

Sky Oceans: Wings for Hire is currently set to be released for PlayStation 5, Steam, Switch, and Xbox Series S|X. Physical editions of the game are available for pre-order for the PlayStation 5 and Switch. A demo will be released during Steam Summer Next Fest on June 10.

It has been announced that El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron HD will be coming to the Switch soon. The remaster of the 2011 title will feature some improvements such as improved framerate and optimized loading. Some new content that has been added will include an artbook and the post-ending novel “Lucifer’s Fall Chronicles of Ceta“.

It has been announced that Beyond the Ice Palace 2 will be coming to consoles and Steam later this year. The game is a sequel to the Commodore 64 game and puts you into the role of the Cursed King. Using the chains that restrained the Cursed King, you will take on demons to reclaim the throne. If you are interested in a physical copy, you can pre-order either the Switch or PlayStation 5 version of the game.

Today the otome Tengoku Struggle -Strayside- has made its way to the Switch. The game is set in a world where humans and the hell realm have made a deal where, Asakusa will allow the living and the dead to meet. However, an incident occurs and a number of souls escape hell. The king of the underworld then sends his adopted daughter Rin to hunt for those who escaped. She heads out with the help of an aide and a few of the more trusted prisoners from hell. Physical editions of the game are available along with an exclusive edition from the Aksys online store that comes with a soundtrack.

Contra: Operation Galuga launches today for consoles and PC. The game is a reimagined update of the original installment in the series. Some new additions include an arcade mode that lets up to four players join for co-op and a single player challenge mode. Other features are character specific skills, overload powers, along with several alternate soundtracks that can be used. Physical editions of the game are available for pre-order through Limited Run Games until April 14. There are three versions to choose from which include a standard edition, classic edition, and ultimate edition.

A new multiplayer mode is now available for Suika Game. Three different modes are available in the DLC. They include “Original” which is the standard mode, “Time Limit” where you have a 5 minute limit to get the highest score, and lastly “Attack” where you try and end your opponent’s game by sending fruit to other player’s box. It should be noted that only local multiplayer is available at the moment, and online multiplayer will be added later on.

It has been announced that Gundam Breaker 4 is set to be released this year. The game will unsurprisingly let players build whatever Gunpla they desire with a large number of mobile suits and parts. The game will have a co-op mode of up to four players. A new diorama mode will also be included. An announcement trailer was also released with the announcement.

Physical editions of Sea of Stars are now up for pre-order. A standard physical edition is available along with an iam8bit exclusive edition. The standard version will include a double sided poster with a digital download of the soundtrack if you pre-order. The exclusive edition includes a retro-style game manual, a slipcase, a poster with a game map, digital download of the soundtrack, and a sticker sheet. It should be noted the regular edition is set to be available on May 10, and the exclusive edition later on. A pre-order for a vinyl version of the soundtrack is also up for pre-order at this time too.

It was recently announced that there will Love Live! franchise will be getting a visual novel. Heading to the Switch it will follow the  Love Live! Nijigasaki High School Idol Club series. At the moment there aren’t too many details about the upcoming game such as a release window. A short teaser trailer for it though was released. Other recent news for the series included an upcoming anime film, along with another season of the Nijigasaki short series.

It has been announced that the bullet hell title Parry Nightmare will be coming to Steam next month. The game follows an exhausted woman who dreads work. One night she is pulled into a nightmare and appears in the form of a floating soul. Defenseless against the manifestations of her troubles she has to rely on the dream version of herself, Honno-chan. Gameplay is made up of parrying the nightmares in the soul form, while attacking them with Honno-chan. You will have a tension meter which when full lets you use a burst attack. There are a number of power-ups including pick ups of food which will add some new abilities. Additionally, there will be a room you can explore in a point-and-click fashion to confront bad memories which will unlock new levels.

Parry Nightmare will launch on PC on March 1.

A demo is now out for Granblue Fantasy Relink for the PS4 and PS5. Unfortunately, there isn’t one set to be released for Steam at this time. The demo will feature three different modes which include tutorial, story, and quest mode. Quest mode will let you choose between eleven different characters and lets you play cooperatively online. Additionally, you can earn rewards in the story and quest modes which will carry on to the full release.

Granblue Fantasy: Relink will be released on the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC on February 1.

The RPG Noctuary is now available on Steam. The game follows Fancia and Alina who are setting out to become Arborangers which are guardians who protect the land, which includes facing against monsters called Darkritters. The games includes some visual novel elements and has branching paths with eight endings. One features are “Blessing Petals” which are gained as you bond with different characters. Characteristics of these characters strengthen and let you customize your play style.

I heard a few things about the series a while back when it was just a light novel series. I didn’t really get into My Next Life as a Villainess until the anime began. For those who aren’t familiar, it features a character who is reincarnated into an otome game called Fortune Lover. She recovers her memories and realizes she is now the character Catarina Claes, who in game is the main antagonist and for most endings is killed or at the very least exiled. From there Catarina does her best with her limited skills to change her fate.

This game is a new story that is set after Catarina believes she’s avoided her death flags. Catarina and her friends end up on a voyage on a luxury ship called the Vinculum. What seems to be an enjoyable trip ends up going awry with pirates boarding them, but also other plots are in the works. The new development reminds Catarina of an old fan book and a fan disc she never had a chance to play. While similar to the scenario, things are still quite different. It doesn’t take long for Catarina to realize she might have more death flags to avoid, and she doesn’t have the advantage of knowing as much as she did about the base game here.

As the main protagonist, Catarina is just as simple minded, gluttonous, and oblivious as she ever is. These traits do reflect in some of the choices that come up, which are are funny at times and may differ from some choices that might typically be seen in these games. If you are not familiar with the light novel or anime, it might be worth noting that Catarina is a pretty dense character who can compete with the best for not noticing romantic signals. While the current Catarina is different than the original, I do like the moments where she embraces the villainess attitude. If you are not a fan of the series, this could be an area you might not appreciate as much from your own tastes though.

It’s probably not that big of a surprise that this is definitely for the fans. It is a new story that does feel like it would belong in the series. All the the characters are voiced with the voice actors from the anime returning for their roles. That being said, I will say even if you are not familiar with the source, you won’t be too lost. The game does a good job recapping the main points worth knowing. At a few points there will be a flashback to the past, usually once from Catarina’s memory and the perspective of another character. If you are new you might have trouble figuring out which choice to make for some characters to build affection. Then again, that is also why they have auto-save.

Routes in these games usually have several chapters, though some routes can conclude within three. The first two chapters for any route will play out more or less the same as Catarina and the others board and enjoy themselves. At the start there are four suitors: the princes Geordo and Alan, Catarina’s adoptive brother Keith, and Nicol, the brother of Catarina’s friend Sophia. Once you finish one of these routes, two more open up for the new characters. These two are original characters named Rozy and Silva. Rozy is an engineer on the ship who quickly befriends her through food and Silva is the head of the Weiss Pirates that take the Vinculum. The two are interesting, though unsurprisingly Silva gets quite a lot of time due to his role. Rozy has fewer parts overall unless you go for his route, which is a bit of a shame. While the scenarios they go through have some similar motions, there are some differences. They can range from what actions are taken, what characters appear, and what details are revealed, among other things.

While there are about six main routes to choose from, My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom! -Pirates of the Disturbance- boasts a total of 25 different endings. These endings include different ones for each route, another ends, and doom endings. The game features a number of galleries and libraries like most games in the genre. Unlocked endings, music tracks, CG scenes, and cutscenes can be viewed from the special menu. The CG scenes look pretty good and the music is also pretty fitting. If there is anything that I would say as a negative about the music is while the tracks are nice, none really blew me away personally. Another thing to collect along the way are memory scenarios. These are unlocked as you play through, and may also depend on what choices you make. These scenarios are not available as you play through a route, but are accessed through the special menu. While they don’t really do much for the main scenarios, they explain some past events and memories of the characters. They are not really important to the overall plot, but they are nice to have.

My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom! -Pirates of the Disturbance- is a game that is very true to the series. The story, setting, and new characters are not something that would be out of place in the original story line. With the series taking place in a world of an otome, it’s only fitting that the game is a solid example of one also. The characters are unique and each route differs enough from each other to keep things interesting. If you are a fan of the series I can definitely recommend this, and if you are not but are looking for a more light hearted otome, then I would say this isn’t a bad choice for you either.

It has been announced that the Chinese RPG Xuan Yuan Sword: Mists Beyond the Mountains will be coming to North America and Europe. The game is set in a world that references both Eastern and Western history and mythologies. It follows a knight named Septem as he recruits allies from the different lands at odds with each other to face off against a bigger threat.

Xuan Yuan Sword: Mists Beyond the Mountains will come to PC and the Switch on December 8.

A new trailer has been released for the upcoming Puella Magi Madoka Magica film. The move is currently set to premiere sometime next year. The last film in the series Rebellion, was released in 2013. A more recent release in the series was the anime adaption of Magia Record which was based off a mobile title.

Today the first volume of the Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection is now out. This volume is made up of the first three mainline titles of the series, Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. In addition to that the collection also includes Metal Gear, Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake, and Snake’s Revenge. Besides the games there’s also the digital graphic novels for the first two Metal Gear Solid titles along with screenplay and master books for all the games included. Each of the titles are available to be downloaded standalone too.

It has been announced that the roguelite Knight vs Giant: The Broken Excalibur will be launching early next month. The game follows King Arthur who after a calamity must face the void giant to free Camelot from another dimension. You will be assisted by Merlin and utilize the powers from the Knights of the Round Table. A demo for the game is also currently available.
